The wide range of products and services in the anti hair loss industry have been able to help countless of people address their balding condition. These come with varying degrees of effectiveness. Regrettably, some also cause adverse reactions that could further add to the person’s anxiety. Being able to identify these products and services in advance can be accomplished through adequate research and due diligence.

Take either of the Food and Drug Administration’s approved hair loss medications for example. Minoxidil can help thicken hair and slow down the rate of balding. It can however also cause itchiness and at times, chest pains. Finasteride is a more potent drug that is effective for hair regrowth during the early to middle stages of androgenic alopecia. At the same time however, it can create symptoms such as impotency and a low sperm count. This could continue to exist even when the use of finasteride has been discontinued. Those who are planning to take these medications should carefully consider the risks before proceeding.

A scalp micropigmentation (SMP) treatment on the other hand has no known side effects. There has yet to be a case documenting such an occurrence. Application of the pigments varies from clinic to clinic however and there may have been instances where a patient has had an adverse reaction that was not reported.

This treatment for hair loss is relatively new. There is no telling of any long-term effects that may result years after an SMP is completed. It has only been around for about twelve years and there is still more to learn about it. The advantages however definitely outshine any defects, so far.

The flaws in the treatment remain with the service provider. There are those that reputedly offer a procedure at bargain prices. The prospective patient should be wary of such clinics because a true SMP treatment should not be provided at very low costs. Procurement of quality materials, the use of specialised equipment and implementation of highly trained specialists are all necessary in order to complete a treatment to an excellent standard.

It is unfortunate that some people are actually baited by these false providers. The results often turn out to be an obvious tattoo. This is the antithesis of what an SMP is for. A real SMP procedure is an illusion of hair that is undetectable to the casual observer. Work that is performed by an expert technician however will often elude discovery even by the patient’s very own barber.

There are worse outcomes by untrained service providers or even those that use materials and equipment of poor quality. Some treatments result in a bluish hue that can also be greenish at other times, depending on the inks used. The hair patterns could also look forced or sometimes out of place. SMP should always take into consideration the skin tone and facial features of the patient. A good technician is aware of this because a treatment that does not match the client’s characteristics would simply look awkward.

There are other potential side effects that may be connected to the negligence of the service provider. Questions about a prospective patient’s susceptibility to allergic reactions should be included in a clinic’s screening process prior to treatment. Tests should also be made beforehand for any adverse response to the inks used. A small patch of skin can be treated to determine if there is a risk of this occurring. Clinics that have such standard operating procedures in place minimize the chance of any side effects that may occur.

Cleanliness remains the top priority of any treatment facility. There is simply no excuse for a substandard approach to the sanitation of a clinic especially one that involves constant penetration of the skin. The needles used should always be brand new and sterilized for good measure. Any other side effects that could potentially result from an SMP procedure are thwarted by stringent standards for hygiene and the diligence of the specialist in ascertaining the patient’s susceptibility to allergic reactions.
