Balding is a condition that manifests itself through different causes. It is not confined to simply one origin. It can be rooted through genetic, autoimmune factors, stress, diet, illness, medication or extraneous circumstances. There may be more causes than the list provided though this generally contains the most common among them. Each is brought about by different reasons and treated in a variety of ways as well.

The main factor causing the genetically induced hair loss condition called androgenic alopecia is through the binding of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) with the androgen receptors of the hair follicles. The DHT attaches itself in such a way that it effectively blocks any nutrients from the bloodstream. As a result, the hair follicle slowly shrinks and the hair strands are lost. The binding of testosterone with the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme creates DHT. This is a natural occurrence in the body and studies have shown that it is ultimately how sensitive the androgen receptors are in attracting DHT that causes hair loss.

creatine

Creatine is an amino acid that the body naturally produces in the pancreas, liver and the kidneys. It is also found through foods rich in protein such as meat and fish. This serves as a building block for the development of muscle tissues as well as the heart. It also helps enhance athletic performance and can aid in treating Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Parkinson’s, heart disease and muscular dystrophy.

Studies have found that there is an increase in DHT levels with the use of creatine supplementation. The usual amount the liver produces is 0.07 ounces a day. A person can consume an average about one to two grams from his daily intake of proteins found in his regular meals such as meat or fish. Creatine supplementation would require an initial fifteen to twenty five grams for one week during the loading phase. Though this could be skipped, it would need an additional three to four weeks before the body could become acclimated to create quicker results in the system. Taking in higher amounts will not translate to greater results however. It is done just to reach the body’s saturation results at a faster rate. The maintenance phase of creatine requires a dosage of five to ten grams a day. This should be taken continuously throughout the training program to boost strength and increase the rate of muscle repair. There is no regular cycle for its intake however some athletes discontinue its use for about a month after daily doses for one and a half to three months.

The use of creatine can influence an increase in the rate of hair loss. Its supplementation can boost the level of testosterone that in turn creates DHT when it binds with the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme. This is the factor that leads to hair loss. Treating this additional rate of baldness is possible through the use of Propecia. It is a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor that prevents the formation of DHT. This medication should also be used continuously in order to benefit from its results. The main drawback from this however is the side effects that go along with it. Propecia use can cause impotence and low sperm count even after discontinuing its intake.

It is recommended that prior consultations with a qualified physician should be made before taking Propecia or combining it with creatine.
