Nanogen Nanogaine

What is Nanogen?

Nanogen is a vast range of branded hair loss products, pioneered and marketed by a laboratory in the UK since 1999.

What is Nanogen Nanogaine?

Nanogaine is a topical solution that is applied daily, and works in a similar way to Rogaine, except instead of being soluble in alcohol, Nanogaine is soluble in water, making it arguably less damaging to the scalp over the long term.

How does it work?

After scouring the internet for countless hours and interviewing many of our customers, we were still unable to conclusively understand how Nanogaine is supposed to work. Even Nanogens own website doesn’t seem to encourage customers to have a thorough understanding of how this product works. There is an awful lot of talk about what the product claims to achieve with very little factual information to back it up. Here is what we found on the Nanogen website:

“The Nitric Oxide (NO) pathway exists within every hair cell. Increased presence of intracellular Nitric Oxide has been shown to increase the size and section of the hair follicle. Conversely, Peroxynitrite has been shown to be detrimental to the health of the hair follicle. Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) therefore has a double hair growth stimulation effect – more NO and less Peroxynitrite. Nanogaine contains the bio-mimetic form of SOD which is present in high concentration to boost the natural free radical scavengers within every hair cell.”

At HIS Hair Clinic we always make a point of understanding how each treatment available in the marketplace works, so we can offer our clients an informed opinion. We consider ourselves to be an intelligent, well educated group of people, however the above quote appears to be written in complete double dutch, in fact the actual term for it is called “blinding you with science”, of which this appears to be a classic example. Apart from a few experiments (on mice), Nanogen do not go very far to explain how this product works, just a load of promises about what it can achieve, which causes us to wonder why the company are not forthcoming with hard evidence.

Is Nanogen Nanogaine any good?

A consumer review of any Nanogen product is practically impossible to find, due to the number of spammy fake ‘reviews’ posted by companies in pursuit of your credit card details. Our clients occasionally mention this product however we are yet to hear an actual success story experienced by a user of Nanogaine. Our view on this product is therefore understandably pessimistic.

There are also a range of additional products that Nanogen ‘recommend’ you buy, all of which are similarly devoid of any true explanation, and are conveniently expensive. These products include Nanoguard B Anagen Activator Solution, and it is recommended that the Anagen Activator should be used in conjunction with Nanoguard A Root Defence System Shampoo.

Are there any side effects?

Nanogen Nanogaine can sometimes cause irritation of the scalp. If this occurs then usage of this product should be discontinued.

What does it cost?

Nanogaine costs around £40 GBP in the UK for one months supply (approx $62 USD). Nanoguard Shampoo costs around £15 GBP per month (approx $24 USD) and Nanoguard Anagen Activator costs around £30 GBP per month (approx $48 USD).

In total if you follow Nanogens advice, you’ll end up spending an eye-watering £85 GBP per month (approx $134 USD), on a product that appears to offer no hard evidence that it actually works. It is also important to note that usage must continue for the lifetime of the patient.
