Ruxolitinib - how excited should we get? With the hair loss treatment market predicted to be worth $3 billion in 2017 it’s perhaps not surprising that there are lots of companies trying to get a slice of the action with new “wonder” products. The latest product to undergo clinical trials is Ruxolitinib.

Is it Really a Miracle Cure?

At first sight the results from the trial at a Columbia University Medical Center sound impressive, with up to 75% of those treated getting most of their lost hair back.

However, scratching beneath the surface a little it becomes clear that the trial only involved 12 people and, more importantly it only helps with the relatively rare hair loss condition alopecia areata. It doesn’t have any effect on male pattern baldness which causes hair loss in up to two thirds of all men by the time they’re in their mid-thirties.

Although the manufacturers of the compound claim they plan to look at solutions for male pattern baldness, a miracle cure still seems a long way off. In the meantime, the best place to go is a hair loss clinic that can provide professional advice about existing, proven treatments.

Talk to the professionals

HIS Hair Clinic has been operating for 14 years and provides treatments and advice on hair loss from 15 clinics around the world. The co-founders, Ian and Ranbir, have tried all the procedures and treatments themselves and pride themselves in offering the best and most customer focused hair loss service available.

The treatments available from them include proven and approved compounds such as finasteride and minoxidil for arresting hair loss and even promoting new growth. They also carry out hair transplants and offer a range of other solutions for hair loss such as laser therapy, mesotherapy or the increasingly popular scalp micropigmentation.

The reality is that there is no miracle cure for male pattern baldness. Everyone’s story is different and each treatment needs individually tailoring to a patient’s needs, taking into account the potential side effect, costs and likelihood of achieving the desired outcome. That’s why it’s best to talk to the professionals.
