Baldness. For many people, depending largely on their family history, almost an inevitability at some point in their lives. Although there are many conditions which may cause baldness aside from simple genetics, the principle cause of hair loss in men is androgenetic alopecia, otherwise known as male pattern baldness. For such a common condition, baldness is still regarded with a certain amount of stigma in todays society.

The effects of baldness

Even if an underlying medical condition exists that is causing hair loss, baldness itself does not cause any physical damage or discomfort. The emotional and psychological effects of hair loss can however, have a significant impact on a persons self-esteem, and therefore, their quality of life.

At HIS Hair Clinics, we are often asked to provide hair loss advice, for those suffering from genetic hair loss, as well as various forms of alopecia and other conditions. What is apparent, is that losing ones hair creates a variety of feelings and insecurities including lack of self-worth, poor self-image, even to the point of believing oneself to be unattractive, and a general sense of feeling old and passed their prime.

Perhaps most significant, is the effect these feelings can have, on the day to day lifestyle of the individual. We have met clients who stopped socialising, deliberately avoiding going out with friends, family and colleagues. Several clients who had previously been happily married, have reported marital problems, often due to a lack of sex drive, a manifestation of their poor self-image. Many single guys struggle to meet eligible partners, due to a general avoidance of social situations, and a lack of confidence.

Baldness is not a life sentence

For those suffering from thinning hair, it is important to remember that baldness does not have to rule your life. Believe it or not, a lack of hair does not carry the same social stigma that it used to. Many women actually find bald men more attractive! Just look at celebrities like Vin Diesel, Jason Statham and Bruce Willis. Even under the critical spotlight of the world’s media, these men are not perceived to be any less attractive as a result of their baldness.

Solutions ARE available

In years gone by, the only viable solutions for hair loss were a hair transplant, hair systems or the constant wearing of a hat. Nowadays, the range of solutions is endless.

Short term solutions such as temporary concealers are now available, alongside a range of ongoing hair treatment options such as the HairMax Lasercomb, topical lotions including Rogaine and Nanogen Nanogaine, pills such as Propecia and Procerin, as well as a range of vitamins for hair loss such as Advecia.

Of course, permanent solutions are also an option. These include hair transplant surgery and our very own MHT® technique.

A search for "hair loss help" on the internet will reveal literally thousands of websites, each offering their own set of hair loss remedies.

Are you looking for hair loss help? We are HIS Hair Clinics, specialist hair loss clinics dedicated to the treatment of hair loss, whatever its cause.

A search for “hair loss help” on the internet will reveal literally thousands of websites, each offering their own set of hair loss remedies. Which route is most appropriate however, depends entirely on their own personal circumstances, their tolerance for maintenance and lifestyle compromises, and of course their budget.

For example, many of our clients contact us for hair loss help and advice prior to booking a hair transplant. Whilst a hair transplant procedure may be the ideal solution for many people, especially if the patient is unlikely to lose any further hair, for others it would be entirely inappropriate, for example if the client is quite young, and is likely to require additional surgery at a later date to counter further hair loss.

What hair loss help can we provide?

HIS Hair Clinics are specialist founders, innovators and practitioners of the Micro Hair Technique, the worlds fastest growing hair loss solution. We firmly believe that MHT® provides hair loss sufferers with a true alternative to traditional hair loss surgery, pills, shampoos, hair systems and concealers.

We do however, provide hair loss advice and guidance, whichever treatment you may be considering. HIS Hair Clinics work in partnership with a number of hair clinics, and can provide clients with a unique, unbiased insight into the world of hair restoration.

For more information, please contact one of our clinics. Alternatively, please feel free to discuss your situation with the community in our hair loss forum, and view our Gallery to see the results offered by the MHT® technique.

This article was published by the Huddersfield Daily Examiner in January 2010 and relates to the increasing role the internet is playing in offering advice and support to individuals suffering from hair loss and other ailments.

“If you’ve ever read the bestselling book “Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus”, you’ll be familiar with the argument that men are far less open than women when it comes to talking about their feelings or concerns.

There are certain topics of discussion where this can be especially apparent. Topics such as self-esteem, sexual and reproductive health, the fact that they’re getting older and of course, the process of an individual losing their hair.

Of course there are many reasons why men can lose their hair. Most often it is simply the passing of time combined with a very common condition called Male Pattern Baldness, often inherited from elsewhere within the family. Other causes include certain types of alopecia, stress, side effects of medical treatments or even the prolonged use of strong styling gels or waxes.

Whatever has caused hair loss in the particular individual, those suffering from balding or thinning hair can be roughly divided into two groups; those who are genuinely not that bothered, and definitely the majority group, those who are affected psychologically or emotionally to some extent.

Coping with hair loss can be difficult for many people, as hair plays a significant role in defining the individual. Several assumptions about a person are often made based on their appearance, including their age, social status, how successful they are and how attractive they are. As hair plays a major role in formulating these assumptions, men often feel that they will be viewed in a less positive light, especially by the opposite sex, if they start losing their hair.

In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. Women find men attractive for many reasons, and what is attractive to some women may not be attractive to others. A lot of women find men with no hair more attractive than those with hair and ironically, hair loss is usually caused by the hormone testosterone, which would suggest that men without hair may have a stronger sex drive!

Either way, men can find discussing highly personal issues such as hair loss quite difficult. Some may find it difficult to ‘open up’, for fear of ridicule or rejection. Often men are simply not that open about their emotions, and feel uncomfortable discussing them with other men.

This is where the internet really does come into its own. As with other embarrassing issues, hair loss can be discussed in an open, but anonymous environment. Blogs and forums allow the user to eavesdrop on discussions and debates without revealing their identity and if they feel comfortable doing so, they can join the discussion or ask questions in complete anonymity.

Hair loss forums and message boards have now sprung up all over the internet to fulfil the needs of thousands of men who wish to gain information and discuss this difficult subject, and even share experiences with other men who have taken steps to combat their hair loss. One of the best we found was the HIS forum, with many users sharing success and failure stories related to the options available for hair loss sufferers, certainly a useful resource for those considering some form of treatment.

If you’re concerned about hair loss, you may find that simply having the opportunity to talk it through will make you feel better, and have some questions answered that you were too afraid to ask.”
