FAQ’s

We have provided answers to some of the most common questions below. If you have any other queries, please contact us on 0845 604 4618 or by e-mail at info@hishairclinic.com.

Why was HIS set up?

HIS was set up simply to help people suffering from hair loss, and to provide an alternative to traditional hair loss treatments.

How are HIS different from a traditional tattooist?

  • HIS only use single-use and fully sterilised micro needles. Traditional tattooists often reuse needles after autoclaving; also at HIS, we clinically dispose of needles immediately after treatment to ensure your treatment is as safe and aseptic as possible.
  • We use bespoke techniques to accurately control the speed, depth and penetration of the needle rather than a traditional coil or rotary machine.
  • HIS use specially formulated pigments as opposed to general tattoo ink. These do not change colour after insertion like traditional tattoo inks.
  • We have developed a unique, clinically tested procedure using MHT scalp pigmentation techniques which enable us to perform our specialist MHT™ hair simulation treatment.
  • HIS is dedicated to performing scalp tattooing only; we do not perform any permanent make up, general body art or conventional tattooing services.

Who benefits from HIS MHT™ scalp pigmentation treatment?

Our treatment is effective for anyone suffering from any type of hair loss, looking to find an alternative solution to conventional hair loss treatments such as wigs, tablets, lotions and surgery. MHT™ provides an effective impression of a full head of hair that is closely cropped or shaved, which can be worked into any remaining areas of hair coverage. MHT™ scalp pigmentation treatment can also be used to effectively disguise scars from hair transplants, sunburn or an accident.

MHT™ scalp pigmentation treatment gives you a younger look, and can give you a complete change of image!

Is MHT™ scalp pigmentation treatment permanent?

MHT™ scalp pigmentation treatment is classed as “permanent”, although with time the pigment is likely to fade and soften due to exposure to ultra violet light and the sun. MHT scalp pigmentation is not a conventional tattooing technique. The MHT™ techniques we have to adopt in order to create the correct size and shape of hair replications and micro hairs does mean fading can occur over time. In order to help this situation we provide comprehensive aftercare instructions to help preserve the best results.

How long will the MHT™ scalp pigmentation treatment take?

Generally two treatment sessions are required, and the length of treatment time is totally dependent upon the size of scalp and the area of hair loss. However, on average a typical treatment takes 3 to 4 hours for the initial appointment and 2 to 3 hours for any follow-up appointments.

Will my MHT™ scalp pigmentation treatment hurt?

Whether the MHT™ treatment does cause any pain is entirely down to your own skin sensitivity. The majority of clients experience some mild discomfort but can tolerate the feeling, which has often been described as a series of small pinpricks.

If you feel it is necessary, we can use a variety of different topical anaesthetic creams and gels to help manage any pain, and our own medical team are available to provide the opportunity to administer anaesthetics.

How soon will I see results?

The results of MHT™ scalp pigmentation treatment are instantaneous following the initial treatment. However, due to the “settling down” time (as the pigment is retained below the skin’s surface), the final results generally take 2 – 5 days following the final treatment.

Does MHT scalp pigmentation damage any remaining hair?

We work with a number of European hair transplant companies, and in the opinion of their surgeons, MHT™ treatment does not damage any remaining hair.

Are there any side effects to having the MHT™ scalp pigmentation treatment?

MHT™ techniques leaves a visible redness on the area of scalp that has been treated for approximately 2 to 5 days, due to micro needles penetrating the skin (redness is less visible on darker skin tones). Some clients have experienced a mild headache following treatment which can usually be brought under control with paracetamol. The treated area is likely to appear darker for up to 7 days after the treatment, largely dependent on your own skin tone. This is caused by the exfoliation process, which causes the regeneration of cells in the skin. This process typically takes 4 to 6 weeks, after which the deposited pigment is retained in the dermis below the surface of the skin (epidermis), making the treated area appear lighter and softer.

What sort of aftercare regime do I need to follow?

HIS provide comprehensive aftercare recommendations following treatment.

Can I go straight back to work after the MHT™ treatment?

Health wise, yes, as the procedure does not leave any residual pain or after-effects, such as you might experience with general anaesthetic.

I do not live in the UK and want the HIS treatment. How can you help?
