What Is The MHT® Technique?

MHT® is short for Micro Hair Technique, a specialist scalp pigmentation treatment that has been developed by combining micro-pigmentation, a form of cosmetic tattooing and finally, regular artistic tattooing techniques.

How does the MHT® Micro Hair Technique work?

MHT®, often described as scalp micropigmentation by our American clients, requires the practitioner to apply highly specialised pigments using a multitide of different needle sizes, penetration depths, angles, pigment colours and distribution rates depending on the specific area of the scalp being treated at the time, the skin tone of the individual and the desired final appearance. The needles do not penetrate as deeply as they do with a standard tattoo and we use tested pigments, not tattoo inks that change colour. We use computer controlled microfine needles in triple clusters to achieve the guaranteed consistency of results that scalp pigmentation demands.

A period of more than 9 years has been used to fully understand, assess and gain expert knowledge and technical know-how of exactly what happens to the treated area of scalp over this sufficiently long period of time. Clinical trials supported with clinical evidence were absolutely necessary in order to successfully take our innovative hair loss treatment from an initial concept to establishing a fully developed clinical process that ensures consistently flawless results.

The MHT® Micro Hair Technique process itself uses state of the art computerised equipment. We use a range of specialist, single-use sterile micro needles to penetrate the dermal layer of the skin. We apply a variety of different shades of specifically blended pigments to guarantee consistent replication of the specific size, shape and density of hair replications and micro hairs. We use different MHT® techniques over the course of treatment to achieve outstanding natural looking results every time.

MHT® techniques follow a specifically developed process, whilst utilising a range of different MHT® scalp pigmentation techniques to penetrate the dermis of the skin. This creates the simulation of real looking hair follicles and micro hairs, that are replicated consistently and effectively. The replication of each hair follicle is a detailed process, each one being treated as an individual task. Only by applying this level of attention to detail can the most outstanding, consistent results be achieved.

The course of treatment usually consists of two sessions depending on the client. Quite often three sessions are required if there are hair transplant scars to camouflage as part of the treatment.

The MHT® process has been specifically designed to be safe. We do not compromise on quality in a bid for cost savings. We use only the finest quality equipment and consumables available to guarantee client satisfaction.

There are no known side effects experienced by MHT® clients, however some clients may feel temporary discomfort during treatment. Anaesthetic options are available if required, however the majority of our clients do not require them. Following treatment, slight reddening of the skin is normal and will subside within a few days. Newly created hairlines can also appear more defined immediately following treatment, as it can take up to a week for the hairline to soften.

Using MHT™ scalp pigmentation techniques, we can create an innovative, individual and natural-looking hairstyle. The process offers a permanent solution for baldness, often lacking from conventional hair loss treatments such as hair pieces, temporary concealers, topical lotions such as Rogaine, and tablets including Propecia and Procerin. MHT® is virtually risk free, and the results are instantaneous in comparison to other solutions.

HIS Hair Clinics are the original innovators of the Micro Hair Technique, and are recognised as the worlds most skilled and experienced practitioners in the field of scalp pigmentation. Only HIS Hair Clinics have a 100% client satisfaction record as testament to our artistic flair, and our no-compromise approach to client satisfaction.

The client in the first photo (left) had suffered hair loss to a Norwood 5 scale before he contacted HIS Hair Clinics. The photo shows how the MHT® scalp pigmentation technique can achieve the perfect illusion of individual looking hair follicles that naturally blend into the surrounding hair. The process is completed with a specialist technique to produce a natural looking hairline at the front, back and sides to achieve a full head of natural looking hair. The scar at the centre of the frontal hairline was left untreated at the clients request, however this could have been totally camouflaged if he had desired.

The client in the second photo (left) had suffered more significant hair loss, almost total in fact to a Norwood 7 scale. The photo shows how the MHT® scalp pigmentation technique can naturally achieve full scalp coverage with consistent, natural looking density right across the entire area. This client received his MHT® treatment back in 2007, however as with many of our clients who take advantage of our aftercare procedures he came back to see us in January 2010 for a general assessment. Clients sometimes at this stage request minor alterations such as making the colour a shade darker, or changing the shape of the hairline, however this particular client did not require any additional treatment.

Please note that many of our clients refer to the MHT® technique as a Micro Hair Tattoo. Whilst we do use this terminology, given the significant differences between the MHT® technique and a regular tattoo, the two treatments are one in the same.
