Temporary Concealers
Temporary concealers blend and reduce the contrast of your scalp to match to your hair colour, thus reducing the obviousness of hair loss. Concealers are often recommended by hair transplant surgeons to conceal initial hair loss after the procedure.
Concealers work by making existing hair appear fuller. This reduces the visibility of the scalp, temporarily combating the effect of thinning hair. Hair loss concealers like this are frequently the subject of ridicule, being referred to as “spray on hair”. However, some of them are surprisingly effective.
Concealers are temporary treatments, and will wash out with regular shampoo. Quality products in this category will not usually stain clothing, or even be removed by heavy wind and rain. Although we do not have personal experience with any of these products, Toppik, DermMatch and Nanogen Nanofibres are the names that crop up most often.
We believe that there are better ways to deal with hair loss than to rely on a make-up powder, spray or shake-on fibres. Many of our customers have tried hair loss concealers but remain unhappy, as whilst the illusion can be fairly effective, it is still an illusion. We have heard numerous embarrasing stories about users having their head patted, their hair ruffled or being rained on that have exposed to everyone around them that they use a hair loss concealer. This can be more damaging to a persons confidence than hair loss itself. It is a vicious circle that many people become embroiled in.
HIS Hair Clinic cannot offer any recommendation or endorsement of such products as we do not have any experience in using them. Spray-on, shake-on or make-up concealers may offer a viable temporary solution to some, however we cannot vouch for their effectiveness or durability.
