How can a VBeam laser help to conceal hair transplant scars?

1 September 2014/in Future Treatments, Hair Loss Blog, Hair Transplant Surgery /by admin

Use of a VBeam laser is becoming a popular method to improve the appearance of all kinds of scars

VBeam procedureThere are two laser solutions on the market right now to help the appearance of hair transplant scars, Fraxel and VBeam. It is important to note that neither of these laser treatments was designed for this purpose, however they definitely offer a useful application for those with hair transplant scarring or other scalp imperfections.

Why are lasers necessary?

Actually, in the majority of cases, they are not absolutely necessary.

Before we camouflage scars using the scalp micropigmentation technique, we provide the client with an estimate of how far we believe we can conceal the scar. This estimate is expressed as a percentage, usually somewhere between 70% and 95%, and is influenced by a number of factors. These factors include the position, size, texture, colour and indentation/protrusion of the scar. A fuller explanation can be found in this post.

Both Fraxel and VBeam lasers can be used to stack the odds of a fuller camouflage in the clients favour. My preparing the scar before scalp micropigmentation, a more complete concealment can sometimes be achieved by our SMP practitioners. Ultimately our practitioners must produce the best result possible with the canvas available to them. By improving that canvas, the chances of a 90% concealment or better are often greatly increased.

Do you need laser sessions?

For a proper explanation you really need to refer to this post, however as a general rule if your scar is of a different texture or colour to the surrounding skin, if it is raised, indented or uneven, your scar could benefit from some sort of laser treatment before SMP.

What is the difference between VBeam and Fraxel?

A full technical explanation is beyond the scope of this article. The top line takeaway however, is that both techniques encourage the production of new collagen within the dermal layer of the skin. The difference in the types of laser used mean that VBeam is better at reducing variations in scar colour, whereas Fraxel is the best choice for improving texture, or for flattening raised or indented scars.
