Going bald is often one of man’s worst fears, yet according to research bald men are often perceived as sexier and manlier. Scientists from the University of Pennsylvania carried out three studies which showed bald men are considered more powerful. However, it also discovered bald men look up to four years older than they actually are.
The good and bad perceptions of male hair loss
While the latest studies did reveal many positive attributes associated with bald men, it also revealed some negatives.
Bald men are seen as more dominant and confident. Therefore, when it comes to business they’re often taken more seriously. However, when the three groups used in the study were shown pictures of men with hair and the same men without hair, they did largely conclude that the full head of hair was more attractive.
The thing to remember here however, is that the groups involved in the study were college students. There have been other studies carried out on older women who have stated bald men are sexier. So, the results appear to be largely age-based.
How to embrace the bald look with SMP
Although there are positives associated with going bald, many men are understandably reluctant to embrace it. If you’re one of them, there is an alternative solution.
The shaved head look is a great way to start getting used to having less hair, while also retaining the same positive perceptions of bald men. Even if you’ve already lost a significant amount of hair and you have numerous bald spots, it’s still possible to achieve a shaved head look with Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP).
The procedure involves the injection of small dots of pigment into the scalp which look just like hair follicles. It's permanent and is significantly cheaper than a hair transplant.
Overall, bald men are often seen as sexier. You only have to look at the popularity of balding stars such as Vin Diesel, Bruce Willis and The Rock to see that. However, if you’re just not ready to embrace the completely bald look then SMP could be the route of you. To find out more why not give us a call at His Hair Clinic
