social media smpIt’s common knowledge that social media has placed a lot of pressure onto women to look their best, but did you know men feel the pressure too? According to a recent survey conducted by Men’s Health magazine, one in three men admit they feel they need to look good on social media. It’s not the first piece of research to reveal an issue with male body image. Previous studies have revealed a quarter of boys believe there’s such a thing as a “perfect male body image” which makes them feel like they aren’t good enough.

An increasing number of men are opting for cosmetic surgery

The need to look good on social media has led many men to undergo cosmetic surgery procedures. In 2016, approximately 2500 British men went under the knife, while a staggering number of others opted for non-surgical procedures. It’s not just standard nose job procedures, or Botox, which are proving popular either. There’s been an increase in the number of men opting to undergo a beard transplant. Facial hair has become extremely important for men today and it’s a trend which isn’t showing any signs of slowing down.  Unfortunately not all men can grow a beard.

What options are available?

Beard transplants work much in the same way as a hair transplant on the scalp. Hair is taken from a donor site, before being implanted into the chin and jaw area. The patient can choose what style of beard they would like, and it creates an almost “instant beard” effect. Scalp Micorpigmentation is another great way for men with thinning hair on top to get a cool anti ageing look. SMP doesn’t involve real hair, but it can help to create a highly realistic stubble effect. Tiny permanent ink pigments are inserted into the scalp, creating the appearance of hair follicles which is indistinguishable from the real thing.
